Wake up to Scripture

August 26th, 2014

Like many people, I struggle with getting out of bed in the morning.  In all honesty, my 3 year old son is the early riser in the house.  If he makes it to 6am, it’s sleeping in.  So often times my alarm clock sounds more like ‘I want chocolate milk’, than ‘beep, beep, beep’.

I was recently challenged by one of my best friends to consider joining a ‘missional neighborhood group’.  I have not dug into it enough to do a write up on it, but my basic premise so far is to discover what Jesus is up to in other’s lives and help it along anyway you can.  So really being ‘on purpose’ with helping others connect to Jesus.  Deliberate.  That has had me thinking about being more deliberate in all areas of walk.  So I figure the best place to start is in the morning.

I came up with the idea to make my alarm clock mean more, and remind me why I am getting out of bed at that time.  This post is just going to be a collection of verses to ‘set your clock to’.  I will update it as I find new amazing verses to wake up to.  For now, I have settled on 5:17.  I went through most of the books to derive this list.  Feel free to leave your chosen time and comments below.

5:17

  • 2 Corinthians – Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
  • Job –  Behold, happy is the man whom God correcteth: therefore despise not thou the chastening of the Almighty:
  • 1 Thessalonians – Pray without ceasing.
  • Deuteronomy – Thou shalt not kill.
