Quick Chapter Summary

The Flood

As man’s population grows, the ‘sons of God’ (possibly angels, most likely godly men) marry the ‘daugthers of men’ (possibly descendents of Seth).
The Lord declares a limit of 120 years for mans life span.
Nephilim (heroes of old, men of renown) were on the earth at this time.
The Lord saw the great wickedness in man’s heart and grieved that he had made man.
He decides to wipe everything off the earth, except for Noah who found favor in His eyes.
Noah was a righteous man with three sons: Shem, Ham and Japeth.
God tells Noah that He is going to destroy everything on the earth.
He tells Noah to build an ark of cypress/gopher wood.
The ark should have three stories/levels with rooms and be coated in pitch inside and out.
Dimensional size should be 450 feet long x 75 feet wide x 45 feet high.
It needed to have a door a roof and some windows no more than 18 inches below the roof.
God explains that He is going to flood the earth and that everything outside the ark will perish.
God tells Noah to gather his wife, his sons, and their wives into the ark, along with two of every kind of animal and bird and food for all of them.
Noah did exactly what he was told.

Genesis Chapter 6

¹And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them, ²That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose. ³And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years. ⁴There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown. ⁵And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. ⁶And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. ⁷And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them. ⁸But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD. ⁹These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God. ¹⁰And Noah begat three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth. ¹¹The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence. ¹²And God looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth. ¹³And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth. ¹⁴Make thee an ark of gopher wood; rooms shalt thou make in the ark, and shalt pitch it within and without with pitch. ¹⁵And this is the fashion which thou shalt make it of: The length of the ark shall be three hundred cubits, the breadth of it fifty cubits, and the height of it thirty cubits. ¹⁶A window shalt thou make to the ark, and in a cubit shalt thou finish it above; and the door of the ark shalt thou set in the side thereof; with lower, second, and third stories shalt thou make it. ¹⁷And, behold, I, even I, do bring a flood of waters upon the earth, to destroy all flesh, wherein is the breath of life, from under heaven; and every thing that is in the earth shall die. ¹⁸But with thee will I establish my covenant; and thou shalt come into the ark, thou, and thy sons, and thy wife, and thy sons' wives with thee. ¹⁹And of every living thing of all flesh, two of every sort shalt thou bring into the ark, to keep them alive with thee; they shall be male and female. ²⁰Of fowls after their kind, and of cattle after their kind, of every creeping thing of the earth after his kind, two of every sort shall come unto thee, to keep them alive. ²¹And take thou unto thee of all food that is eaten, and thou shalt gather it to thee; and it shall be for food for thee, and for them. ²²Thus did Noah; according to all that God commanded him, so did he.

¹This is the book of the generations of Adam. Cain and Abel

Eve gives birth to two sons: Cain, the older, and Abel .
Abel is a shepherd a finds favor in God’s eyes by bringing a pleasing offering to the Lord.
Cain is a farmer and skimps on his offering. The Lord isn’t pleased with this.
Cain becomes angry with the fact that his brother’s offering was better than his.
Cain lures Abel out into the field and kills him.
God curses Cain, places a mark upon him and sends him away.

Genesis Chapter 4

¹And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a man from the LORD. ²And she again bare his brother Abel. The Fall of Man

The serpent comes to Eve and tempts her to eat from the forbidden tree.
The woman listens to the serpent and eats from it. She also brings some to Adam and he eats as well.
Knowing they’ve sinned, they hide in the garden until God comes.
Adam blames Eve. Eve blames the serpent.
God curses the serpent and promises a savior to come and crush the serpent’s head.
Women must now endure much pain during childbirth. They will also be ruled over by their husbands.
Men must now tool and work to produce food.
All people will now have to die.
God clothes them and forces them out of the garden.
An angel with a flaming sword is placed at the garden gate to prevent anyone from returning and eating of the Tree of Life.

Quick Chapter Summary

The heavens and the earth are completed and God rests of the 7th day declaring it holy.
The rest of the chapter goes back and recounts the details of the sixth day.
God creates man from the dust of the ground.
He places man in the garden He created in Eden.
The garden has a river and many different edible fruit trees.
The Tree of Life and the Knowledge of Good and Evil are placed in the middle of the Garden. Man(Adam) is commanded not to eat from the tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil.
Adam names all the animals while searching for a partner/helper/companion.
God creates Eve from Adams rib since no suitable companion could be found amoung the animals.

Book of Genesis – Chapter 1 Summary

Quick Chapter Sumary

Chapter 1 of Genesis is an overview of the first 7 days of creation. It lists the different things that were created on each of the days.

Day 1 – Light is created to separate day time and night time

Day 2 – The ‘firmament’ is created. Firmament is another word for sky or the heavens.

Day 3 – The waters are gathered together and land is formed. Plants, vegetation, and trees are created. Each one is designed to reproduce only seeds after it’s one ‘kind’ or type.

Day 4 – The sun, the moon, and the stars are created.

Day 5 – All animals that are sea dwelling and birds of the air are created. They are again, created to reproduce with and after their own ‘kind’.

Day 6 - All land dwelling animals are created. Lastly, God creates man in His own image from the dust of the ground. He commands man to multiple and to rule over the rest of the creation that he has made.

This is where Genesis Chapter 1 ends. The 7th day of rest is in the first 2 verses of Chapter 2.
