Daily Scripture Verse – Proverbs 1:7

Proverbs 1:7 – The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

This is taken from the intro of the book of Proverbs.  Proverbs is a book that is all about attaining knowledge and wisdom for leading a great life.  This verse is foundational in that premise.  ‘Fear’ here needs a proper context.  My NIV bible puts it rather elegantly in the notations:

FEAR OF THE LORD

=

A loving reverence for God that includes submission to his lordship and belief in his promises.

Reverence and acknowledgement of God as Lord of all is tantamount to beginning to understand and acquire the wisdom he has set out in this book of ‘Amazing’ (I love Proverbs… favorite book of the old testament’).
